The Bridges across Neris in Philatelic Exhibition

Oct 31, 2013

In Vilnius Main Post Office, the exhibition of photographs and postcards under the title The Bridges across Neris is already open. The famous philatelist Henrikas Kebeikis has presented for the exhibition almost five hundred photographs and postcards.

More than 60 different bridges across the River Neris having operated during various historical periods can be recognized in the pictures. The painting dating back to 1750 under the title The Bridge across Vilnelė, which can be seen in a photograph dated 1861, is the oldest exhibit.

The collection consists of Lithuanian postcards and photographs and the ones printed in Poland, Germany and other countries.

This is the second exhibition in Vilnius Main Post Office arranged by Henrikas Kebeikis. At the end of the last year, the philatelist presented for the exhibition his collection Postage Tariffs of Lithuania Post 1990-1996, which was awarded the Great Gold Medal in the international philatelic exhibition held in Belarus.

Mr Kebeikis has been engaged in the collection of postage stamps for almost half a century - since 1961. The philatelist started building up the collection of postcards with various bridges in 1963 after graduating from Kaunas Polytechnic Institute. The enthusiasm to collect the views of bridges strengthened in 1967, when he undertook management of Alytus A. Juozapavičius and Kaniūkai Bridges reconstruction works.

In total, more than 80 awards from different countries have been given for Mr Kebeikis’ collections.

The exhibition The Bridges across Neris will run in Vilnius Main Post Office until March 24.
