Lietuvos paštas mentioned its 91st birthday

On the 16th November the 91st anniversary of the establishment of Lietuvos paštas was commemorated. On this occasion Vilnius main post office hosted the exhibition of postage stamps, there was organized the competition of the children paintings, the best employees of the company were awarded. Lietuvos paštas also organized the exhibition of postage stamps in the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.



„Today Lietuvos paštas is celebrating 91st birthday. This organization, famous with its old traditions, reaching the most distant areas of the country everyday, is one of the most prominent examples of social responsibility in the country. – said director general of AB Lietuvos paštas Andrius Urbonas. – The greatest value of Lietuvos paštas today is the employees. So on the occasion of this nice event I wish to all my 8000 and more colleagues best luck, good health and positive attitude“.

The Minister of Transport and Communications Eligijus Masiulis also arrived to congratulate the employees of AB Lietuvos paštas. The minister presented the postman’s badge of honour to the five employees of AB Lietuvos paštas.


The honourable awards were presented to the head of mail exchange department of Mail Transportation Centre Stanislavai Dacevič, operator of Šilute post office Aldona Junevičienė, courier of Vilnius courier mail department Antonij Marciševski, postman of Rokiškis post office Vilija Sakalauskienė and head of Šiauliai Logistics department Danutė Šimkuvienė.



After the awarding ceremony the fair of postage stamps was opened, in which the members of the Union of Lithuanian Philatelists introduced their collections and shared the experience of collecting postage stamps.



On the occasion of Lietuvos paštas birthday the competition of drawing New Year postcards was organized. The first prize was awarded to 5th former of Vilnius Gerosios Vilties school Airė Romaškevičiūtė, second prize and third prizes – to the representatives of the same school Evelina Nacevičiūtė and Gintarė Meškėnaitė. The winners received special souvenirs.



The last event took place in Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania where the valuable philatelic collections were demonstrated, the members of the Union of Lithuanian Philatelists received the honourable mentions from the Minister of Transport and Communications Eligijus Masiulis.


The date of the establishment of Lietuvos paštas is considered 16th of November 1918. The first chairman of the Board of Post, Telegraph and Telephone was engineer Benediktas Tamoševičius.
