Lithuania Post to Announce the Winners of Postage Stamp Design Competition

The artists who are going to design postage stamps for 2012 have come into light. In total, 31 new postage stamps will be issued the next year.

The authors of the next year’s postage stamps will be Valdonė Bručienė, Mindaugas Gribauskas, Vilius Bručas, Irma Balakauskaitė, Aušrelė Ratkevičienė, Ieva Griškaitė, and Indrė Ratkevičiūtė.

“A considerable number of designs, amounting almost up to 100, have been submitted for the competition. We are glad that together with well known postage stamp designers young artist have shown interest in the competition,” Director of Sales Division Arūnas Venckavičius said.

A special attention has been given to the themes dedicated to Christmas, New Year, Railway Bridges and the City of Klaipėda.

Actually, not all authors of the next year’s postage stamps are known. An additional competition is announced to create two postage stamps under the title Visit Lithuania from the set Europa. The postage stamps designs must be submitted to the commission until 16 January 2012.

The winners of the postage stamp design competition have been awarded monetary prizes. The winners of the first place received LTL 1,000 for a stamp, LTL 750 for the second place and LTL 450 for the third place. The author of the best work - the design of the set of two postage stamps or a souvenir sheet with one postage stamp - has been awarded a prize of LTL 1,500. The winner of the second place has received the prize of LTL 1,000 and the prize of LTL 750 has been given to the third place winner.

The winners of the competition have been elected by a special commission consisting of the representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Lithuania Post as well as artists, historians and specialists of other fields.

In 2012, it is planned to issue 29 postage stamps and 2 souvenir sheets on 15 different themes. The stamps of the next year will be dedicated to the Curonian Spit, Lithuania, XXX London Olympic Summer Games, famous people, Christmas and New Year.
