May 13, 2014

Every year Lithuania Post takes part in the contest of Europe’s the most beautiful postage stamp. This year everyone is invited to vote for the most beautiful postage stamps featuring national music instruments of European countries.

This year Lithuania Post has released 2 postage stamps on the theme Musical Instruments. One stamp features the reed-pipe birbynė and the plucked string musical instrument kanklės; another one features the goat-horn ožragis and the wooden bells skrabalai. The latter stamp is representing Lithuania at the elections of the most beautiful European stamp.

The stamps to be released on May 3 have been created by the artist Ieva Turulytė. Each stamp will be released in the edition of 80 thousand copies with a nominal value of LTL 2.45.

The vote for the most beautiful stamp of Europe can be placed online at www.posteurop.org/europa2014. We invite everyone to take part in this contest and elect the most beautiful European stamp! Voting is open until August 31.

The first elections of the most beautiful postage stamps were arranged in 2002. Every year national postal operators can submit to the contest one stamp from the continuous series Europe. Last year the contest was arranged for the stamps depicting postal vans. The majority of votes were given to the Turkey’s philatelic product.

In the course of a year Lithuania Post issues on average 25-30 postage stamps. Lithuania Post also provides courier, logistic, and financial intermediation services.
