Postage Stamp Marking the Centenary of Lithuanian Scouting
In commemoration of the centenary of scouting in Lithuania, Lithuania Post has issued a special postage stamp to mark this occasion. It was released into circulation on 30 March this year.
The postage stamp “100 Anniversary of Lithuanian Scouting” was designed by a painter Darius Laumenis. The new postage stamp is of EUR 0.52 nominal value and was released with a circulation of 20,000.
“In the context of the centenary of the restoration of the State of Lithuania, the Lithuanian scouting – the think tank of creative, patriotic and civic personalities – is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Lithuania Post would also like to join them and disseminate this great news by issuing a new postage stamp,” Vaida Budrienė, Head of Corporate Affairs Department of Lithuania Post, said.
“All scouts in Lithuania and in emigration find the release of a postage stamp dedicated to them on the occasion of the centenary of the scouting movement in Lithuania very important. It is a great opportunity for scouts and collectors to purchase this special postage stamp as well as a great chance for the public to learn about the scout movement, its meaning and activities.
In my view, every scout should have a postage stamp marking the centenary of scouting in their collection. I invite every scout to send no less than 10 letters using this postage stamp thus widely spreading the idea of the scouting movement and attracting more young civic people to it,” Ieva Brogienė, head of the Lithuanian scouting, noted.
Along with the postage stamp “100 Anniversary of Lithuanian Scouting”, first day covers were released as well.
Lithuanian Scouting is a public, voluntary, non-political organisation. It is open to all residents of Lithuania regardless of their race, nationality, religion, gender, or social circumstances. Lithuanian Scouting seeks to develop young people and help them reach their full physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual potential, and become responsible citizens of their local, national, and international communities.
On 14-22 July this year, Lithuanian Open-Air Folk Museum of Lithuania in Rumšiškės will host a national scouting camp “Generation of Campfire”. It is organised to commemorate the 100th anniversary of operation of the Lithuanian scouting.
Lithuania Post releases 25-27 postage stamps annually. It also provides courier, logistical and financial intermediation services.
