Postage Stamps Dedicated to the Centenary of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania Released

Feb 12, 2018

On the occasion of the centenary of the restoration of the State, Lithuania Post has released the third 100th anniversary postage stamp block to commemorate this special anniversary of Lithuania.

The last two postage stamps of the series dedicated to the centenary of the restoration of the State of Lithuania depict the House of Signatories of the Act of Independence of Lithuania and the original copy of notification in which Lithuania is declared an independent state by the Council of Lithuania dated 16 February 1918 and found by Prof. Liudas Mažylis.

The block of postage stamps was created by a painter Aušrelė Ratkevičienė. The nominal value of each postage stamp amounts to EUR 1.16. The circulation of the occasional block of two postage stamps is part of series “100 Years to the Restoration of the State of Lithuania” and is 25,000.

The continuous block of postage stamps “100 Years to the Restoration of the State of Lithuania” has been released annually since 2016. Postage stamps issued in 2016 depicted one of the most prominent figures who enshrined the idea of national revival of the 19th century, namely, the portrait of Dr Jonas  Basanavičius, and facsimiles of the first Lithuanian newspapers the Aušra  and the Varpas. The postage stamps released in 2017 perpetuate the historical events of the beginning of the 20th century that had a crucial effect on the restoration of independence of the State of Lithuania: the recovery of press (7 May 1904), the Great Seimas of Vilnius (4-5 December 1905)  and the Vilnius Conference (18-22 September 1917).

On 16 February, the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the state of Lithuania was commemorated. It marks the beginning of the development of an independent democratic state of Lithuania, which was the first firm step into the present-day modern state of Lithuania.

Lithuania Post releases 25-27 postage stamps annually. It also provides courier, logistical and financial intermediation services.
